NEXT WEEK’S READINGS . . . Exodus 17:1–7; 1 Cor 9:24–10:5; Matthew 20:1–16.

ABOUT THIS WEEK’S READINGS . . . The Lord appeared to Moses in the light of the burning bush (Ex. 3:1–14). Later Moses’ face would shine with the light of God’s glory when he came down from Mount Sinai (Ex. 34:29–35). At the Transfiguration, Moses and Elijah appeared with the One who is the Light of Light Himself (Matt. 17:1–9). Jesus’ glory as God shines with brilliant splendor in and through His human nature. By this epiphany, our Lord confirmed the prophetic word (2 Pet. 1:16–21), revealing that He is the fulfillment of the Law and the Prophets. He manifested His majesty as the eternal Son of the Father, and He wonderfully foreshowed our adoption as sons (Collect). We who have been baptized into Christ’s body are given a glimpse of the glory that we will share with Him in the resurrection on the Last Day.

THOUGHTS ABOUT STEWARDSHIP . . . Matthew 17:7 But Jesus came and touched them, saying, “Rise, and have no fear.” When Jesus is with us, there is no need to fear. He loves us and cares for us and will never abandon us. That assurance is the basis of all generosity—for only those who are set free from worry can learn the joy of giving.

BI-MONTHLY MISSION . . . is February 5, and will be going to the Tuscola Area Ministerial Alliance (TAMA). For your convenience, an envelope designated for TAMA has been placed in your church mailbox. You may place cash or check payable to Immanuel in this envelope. Use the envelope to return your gift in the offering, or you may return it to the church office on or before February 5. Thank you!

THE FEBRUARY CALENDAR . . . with birthdays and anniversaries is available on the table across from members’ mailboxes.

YOUTH GROUP EVENT . . . will meet today, Sunday, January 29, 6:00 pm –7:30 pm. This month’s event will include a short study and some games. Snacks will be provided.

ATTENTION ALL LADIES . . . We are bringing the Altar Guild back!  During COVID, Pastor and Lauren Braaten and the younger ladies of our congregation (Annabelle Cash, Willa Braaten, and Ava Whitson) assumed the role of communion ware clean up and altar cloth care—and for that we thank them. If you would like to assist them with this role, please sign up for monthly commitments on the sign-up sheet at the back of church. Like Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome (Mark 16:1), who came to the tomb upon Jesus’ death to take care His body, as members of the Altar Guild, we participate in caring for Jesus’ body and blood post communion. Thank you for your willingness to serve. We will be scheduling a refresher for those interested in what is involved with caring for the linens and communion ware in March.

THE ALTAR FLOWERS . . . were given by Matthew & Terra Waldrop to the glory of God on the occasion of Trey’s birthday.

HELP OUT LOCAL PRO-LIFE AGENCIES . . . Did you know January is Sanctity of Life month? In an effort to support the good and necessary work of the pro-life pregnancy resource centers near us, the Board of Mission and Evangelism would like to encourage you to donate items from the following list during the next four weeks. Please place them in the pack-n-play at the back of the church and see if we can fill it up. Let us be a blessing to those mothers in need who courageously chose life. Thank you! ITEMS IN NEED — NEW: diapers (all sizes up to 6), baby wipes, formula (all kinds), hooded towels, wash cloths, diaper rash cream, baby blankets, bottles, pacifiers, burp cloths, bibs, small toys, hygiene kits for baby. GENTLY USED: maternity clothes, baby clothes, pajamas, jackets, onesies, baby equipment (strollers, high chairs, pack and plays, bouncy seats).

THE FINANCIAL REVIEW COMMITTEE . . . is requesting the deposit ledgers and bank statements of all groups associated with Immanuel so that they may be reviewed as mandated by the church constitution. They may be set in the church office.

BELIEVE, BELONG, BECOME . . . Each week a new E-NEWSLETTER will be delivered called BELIEVE, BELONG, BECOME. It’s a tagline of sorts for our mission as Christians in this world. We BELIEVE that Jesus Christ purchased and won us from sin, death, and the devil with His own blood. Therefore, we BELONG to Him and in Him we belong to one another, so that we BECOME like Him as we mature in faith toward God and fervent love toward one another. There will be three sections in this e-mail. The BELIEVE section will highlight something we believe from the Catechism for us to review throughout the week. The BELONG section will give names of various people in our congregation, town, county, state, and nation to pray for by name. The BECOME section will high light what we as Christians are striving to become better at with some practical tips, often related to the upcoming readings of the church, but not always. The first BELIEVE, BELONG, BECOME will be sent early this coming week. The e-newsletter will not replace the Immanuel News & Notes, but will be in addition to them.

THANK YOU . . . to Steve Hilgendorf, Jack and Mary Appleby, and Mike and Caiden Russo for all the work they did to complete the inside of the new shed.
