THE ANNOUNCEMENTS

NEXT WEEK’S READINGS . . . 2 Kings 5:1–15a; Romans 12:16–21; Matthew 8:1–13.

ABOUT THIS WEEK’S READINGS . . . The coming of the Messianic kingdom means the restoration of creation. The sign of this restoration is that “the mountains shall drip sweet wine” (Amos 9:11–15). When the elements of a fallen creation fail and run short at a wedding feast, our Lord Jesus steps in to restore creation and miraculously changes water into an abundance of the very best wine (John 2:1–11). With this sign, Christ manifests His glory. The “back” of God (Ex. 33:12–23) is revealed to those who believe. The hour will come when Jesus will again manifest His glory by taking creation’s curse into His own body to release us from its power. The Bridegroom will give His life for the Bride (Eph. 5:22–32), and from His side will flow water and blood, the holy sacraments by which she is cleansed and made one with Him. Through this sacrificial love of Christ we are enabled to “love one another with brotherly affection . . .” and to “outdo one another in showing honor” (Rom. 12:6–16).

THOUGHTS ABOUT STEWARDSHIP . . . John 2:5 His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” What must Mary have thought when Jesus replied, “What does this have to do with Me?” But she knew this: whatever her Son said to do would be a blessing, so she knows what advice to give to the servants: Do whatever He tells you! That’s still good advice for us in every aspect of our lives – including in our generosity toward the Lord’s work in the Church.

THE ALTAR FLOWERS . . . are given to the glory of God in appreciation of Immanuel’s officers.

NEW OFFICER INSTALLATION . . . is today, Sunday, January 14, during the Divine Service immediately following the offering response. Following the Divine Service a reception will be held in the Fellowship Hall as a thank you to both the outgoing and incoming officers for their service to Immanuel.

CHURCH COUNCIL MEETS TODAY . . . Sunday, January 14, at 11:15 am in the Fellowship Hall.

CATECHISM CLASS . . . resumes today, Sunday, January 14, at 12:30 pm.

VOTERS’ ASSEMBLY MEETING . . . is tomorrow, Monday, January 15, at 7:30 pm.

MATINS IS SUSPENDED . . . until further notice due to the sanctuary flooring renovation.

CAN YOU DICE AND CHOP? . . . Do you like stirring and sautéing? Are you a whiz at baking frozen pizzas? Want to be a blessing to someone in our congregation? Then grab your apron and mark your calendars for Saturday, February 10, at 9:00 AM in the church kitchen. We will be making freezer meals to take to some of our members as a way to bless them and show them that we care. This is a trial run to see if this is something we as a church family can do routinely when there is a need within the congregation. The LWML has graciously donated seed money to start this endeavor, and we are very grateful. No experience in the kitchen required; however, we may ask you to help with the dishes. Please continue to watch the bulletin for more information and contact Leigh Ann Whitson or Lauren Braaten with any questions.
