Join Immanuel Lutheran Church in Tuscola, IL, for a Midweek Lenten series on Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount, focusing on faith, repentance, and Christ alone.
The Transfiguration is not an escape from the cross, but preparation for it. When Christ’s glory is revealed on the mountain, heaven itself speaks not of avoiding suffering, but of Jerusalem. And when terrified disciples fall to the ground, Jesus does not leave them there—He comes to them, touches them, and speaks the Gospel: “Rise, and have no fear.”
At Christmas, the familiar sights and sounds awaken a deep longing for home. That ache—what the ancients called nostos—is more than nostalgia. It is God-given, drawing us to Christ, who comes to dwell among us, gathers us into His Church, and promises to bring us home forever.
