THE ANNOUNCEMENTS

NEXT WEEK’S READINGS . . . Genesis 15:1–6; 1 John 4:16–21; Luke 16:19–31.

ABOUT THIS WEEK’S READINGS . . . When Isaiah beheld the glory of the Lord, he cried out “Woe is me!” For the sinner cannot stand in the presence of a holy God and live (Is. 6:1–7). But God the Father lifted up His Son Jesus for us on the cross, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. This eternal life of Christ is given us according to the Holy Spirit’s good pleasure in Baptism. “Unless one is born [again] of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God” (John 3:5). To sinners in fear of death, the messengers of God place on our lips the living body and blood of Christ and speak His words of absolution, “Your guilt is taken away, and your sin atoned for” (Is. 6:7). Having received forgiveness and life from the Father through the Son by the Holy Spirit, we join with the angels in praising the blessed Trinity, “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts!” (Is. 6:3). “For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be glory forever. Amen” (Rom. 11:33–36).

THOUGHTS ABOUT STEWARDSHIP . . . Isaiah 6:3 “And one called to another and said: ‘Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!’” Behold the threefold Name of God—here in Isaiah the angels cry Holy, Holy, Holy, which is nothing else than an indication of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This is the Name we are baptized into. We have been made a part of God’s family. And so we are now called to live lives that are in harmony with our new family: we are to be godly, to live in God’s image. As God is loving, and kind, and generous—so are we called to be.

ALTAR FLOWERS . . . are given by Mike and Tina Russo to the glory of God in thanksgiving for Marissa’s graduation and Caiden’s confirmation.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL . . .  begins this Monday, June 7–Friday, June 11, 9:00 am–11:00 am. Go to https://immanueltuscola.org/ to sign your child(ren) up. The Board of Education is seeking donations of snacks, juice, and volunteers. You may sign up by taking a post-it note from VBS board in the Narthex. Please bring your items to the church kitchen by Monday, June 7, at 8:45 am. Thank you!

THERE ARE STILL OPENINGS FOR FLOWERS . . . on the flower chart. Sign up individually or team up with someone. Flowers are $35.00 per weekend. Thank you!

THANK YOU . . . to the Board of Christian Education for the wonderful reception given in honor of the confirmands. It was a great way to celebrate their special day.

A SPECIAL VOTERS’ ASSEMBLY MEETING . . . is called by the Board of Elders on Sunday, June 6, after the Divine Service during the Adult Bible Class hour. We are meeting so that the Trustees may present their recommendations for the replacement of the parking lot, after an anonymous donor pledged to pay for the entire replacement cost.

QUOTATIONS FROM LUTHER ON JOHN’S GOSPEL . . .

John 3:1–15 (16–17) “Would that for the sake of our corruption and that horrible depravity we could know God and love Him in return! He shows Himself so benign and propitious that He dwells with us and associates with us, albeit invisibly. Yet He does not do so imperceptibly, if I may use that expression. He has given us His Son as a pledge of this love and intimate association (John 3:16). But, those who are smug and irreligious have ears and do not hear.” LW 4:257

John 15:26–16:4 This additional gift will be My Spirit, who will renew in your hearts these words I am now speaking to you and will fully clarify them for you, so that you will understand them ever better and know what both I and the world mean in your lives. He will give you the strength and courage to enable you to continue to adhere to Me and to pursue your course. For if He were not with you and you were to engage in daily combat with both the devil and the world, you would not be able to bear this.” LW 24:290

John 16:5–15 “He is Himself a distinct Person who is neither the Father nor the Son. For all the following words indicate a special Person: ‘the Comforter, who will come’; ‘Whatever He hears He will speak.’ If He is to come or, as Christ said earlier, if He is to be sent or to proceed, also to hear and to speak, He must of course, be something. Now He is surely not the Father, since the Father does not come and is not sent. Nor is He the Son, who has already come and now returns to the Father, and of whom the Holy Spirit will preach and whom He will glorify.” LW 24:364

HOLY COMMUNION . . . The offer still stands, during the pandemic, that if you desire the Holy Communion, you can make an appointment with Pastor to receive the Lord’s Supper either at church or in your home until services resume.
