THE ANNOUNCEMENTS

NEXT WEEK’S READINGS . . . Micah 6:6–8; Philippians 1:3–11; Matthew 22:15–22.

ABOUT THIS WEEK’S READINGS . . . “‘Let there be light,’ and there was light” (Gen. 1:1—2:3). The Father speaks, and it is so. His Word accomplishes what it says. He created all things out of nothing through His Son by the power of the Holy Spirit. The Father’s creative Word became flesh in Jesus Christ, that He might restore fallen creation and save fallen man. To the nobleman whose son was deathly ill, Jesus says, “Go; your son will live” (John 4:46–54). And in the very hour Jesus spoke, the nobleman’s son was made well. The Word of Christ still accomplishes what it says. In baptism, absolution, and the Lord’s Supper, He declares His life–giving forgiveness to you, and it is so. This saving Word of God is the sword of the Spirit by which you are able to fight off all the onslaughts of the devil (Eph. 6:10–17). “Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.”

THOUGHTS ABOUT STEWARDSHIP . . . Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” We are not our own—God has made us and we are His. He made everything so it is all His. And how kindly He has blessed us with the many gifts of His creation! Faithful stewardship starts right here . . . in the beginning.

ALTAR FLOWERS . . . are given by Ray & Norma Uthe to the glory of God in honor of all veterans on Veterans Day.

SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHERS NEEDED . . . We are still in need of one teacher for the 4th–6th grade class. If this position is not filled those grades will not have Sunday School. Also beginning in January, we will need one teacher for the 1st–3rd grade class.

SALVATION ARMY BELL RINGERS . . . Martha Rhoades from the Salvation Army is looking for volunteers from Immanuel to serve as bell ringers on Friday, November 28, 9:00 am–4:00 pm, at the Tuscola IGA. Teams of two can work one-hour increments. A sign-up sheet has been placed in the Narthex, which needs to be handed in by Monday, November 9. So find a partner, choose a time slot or two, and get your ringing arms ready. What an opportunity for us to exhale God’s mercy in Christ that we have inhaled through His Word and Sacrament!

THANKSGIVING EVE DIVINE SERVICE . . . is scheduled for Wednesday, November 26, 7:00 pm.

CHRISTMAS CAROLING . . . The Youth Group will be Christmas Caroling to those who are homebound or in nursing homes on Sunday, November 30, 3:00 pm5:00 pm. But the entire congregation is invited to join us in bringing good tidings of great joy to those who are unable to hear it in church.

DECORATING THE CHURCH FOR CHRISTMAS . . . will be on Saturday, December 6, 9:00 am–11:00 am. Mark your calendars and help us make the church ready for the Christmas Season.
