THE ANNOUNCEMENTS

NEXT WEEK’S READINGS . . . Genesis 1:1–2:3; Ephesians 6:10–17; John 4:46–54.

ABOUT THIS WEEK’S READINGS . . . The Holy Spirit sounds forth the Gospel call: “See, I have prepared my dinner . . . Come to the wedding feast” (Matt. 22:1–14). But many reject this invitation in favor of worldly pursuits. And so the call goes out to others, both the good and the bad. For the wedding invitation is not based on the qualifications of those invited but on the basis of the merits and work of Christ. The feast is free: “He who has no money, come, buy and eat . . . delight yourselves in rich food.” (Is. 55:1–9). Those rejecting the Spirit’s work shall experience God’s wrath and judgment. Those who are not clothed in Christ’s righteousness shall be cast into outer darkness where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Let us therefore seek the Lord while He may be found, for He will have mercy upon us. Let us redeem the time, being filled with the Spirit, giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ (Eph 5:15–21).

THOUGHTS ABOUT STEWARDSHIP . . . Isaiah 55:2 “Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which does not satisfy?” What Isaiah says here is reminiscent of what Jesus says about putting our earthly wealth in places where “moth and rust destroy.” Where we put the money God has given us to manage says a lot how we actually view life. What do your spending priorities say about what you think is truly important in life?

ALTAR FLOWERS . . . are given by Josh & Jaimee Whitson to the glory of God on the occasion of the anniversary of their wedding.

REMINDER: CHURCH COUNCIL MEETS . . . today, Sunday, October 14, at 11:15 AM.

VOTERS’ ASSEMBLY MEETING . . . is Monday, October 15, at 7:30 PM. Just a reminder that any voting member who is absent from the voters’ meetings for a full year without a valid excuse shall have his/her name removed from the roster of voting members. Those who are 65 and older can submit a written request to have their name placed on the senior voting member list and will be automatically excused. If any senior member is unsure whether or not there is a written request on file, please contact the office. If any member has been removed from the roster of voting members, he/she can be reinstated by a request to the elders and attendance at the voters’ meeting approving that request.

ROTARY FOOD DRIVE . . . On October 20, 2018, Tuscola residents can give to the SAM Food Pantry by placing non-perishable food at their doors. Pickup begins at 10:00 AM; volunteers will check every front door. Donations from outside of Tuscola can be dropped off at the Tuscola United Methodist Church. See the posters on Immanuel’s bulletin boards for additional information.
