THE ANNOUNCEMENTS

NEXT WEEK’S READINGS . . . Proverbs 9:1–10; 1 John 3:13–18; Luke 14:15–24.

ABOUT THIS WEEK’S READINGS . . . When the beggar Lazarus died, he was carried by the angels to Abraham’s bosom. For he was truly Abraham’s seed. Like Abraham, he believed in the Lord, and the Lord “counted it to him as righteousness” (Gen. 15:6). The name Lazarus means “God is my help.” The unnamed rich man, on the other hand, did not love and trust in God. For he evidently cared little for the beggar at his gate. And “he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen” (1 John 4:20). He who loved and trusted in possessions and prestige died and was in torments in Hades (Luke 16:19–31). Repentance and faith are worked only through Moses and the prophets—that is, the Word of God, for it points us to Christ. Only through His death and resurrection are we brought the comfort of life everlasting.

THOUGHTS ABOUT STEWARDSHIP . . . Luke 16:19 “There was a rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and who feasted sumptuously every day.” There is another rich man in this story—Abraham. Obviously, these two men used the gift of riches that God gave them in very different ways. The life and decisions of Abraham flowed from faith; the rich man’s life and choices flowed from disbelief and self-centeredness. So Abraham was kind and generous, reflecting his trust in a kind and generous God. And the rich man . . . well, you saw what happened to him and what god he served.

ALTAR FLOWERS . . . are given by Darrell & Dolores Ford and Barney & Marylin Joergens to the glory of God in thanksgiving for 62 years of life together on their wedding anniversary, June 7th.

CONGRATULATIONS TO GUNNAR CAMPBELL . . . on being the recipient of this year’s ILC College Scholarship. We will recognize him after this Sunday’s Divine Service and present him with the award.

THERE ARE STILL . . . many openings to put flowers on the altar. Check the flower chart on the bulletin board in the hallway outside the Sanctuary for openings and sign up. Flowers are $30.00 and can be special ordered if desired. Flowers can be taken home after the Sunday’s service. There are cups in the Sacristy under the sink to put the flowers in. Please do not take the inserts home.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL . . . will begin next week, running Sunday, June 14–Thursday, June 18, 6:00 pm–7:30 pm. This year’s theme is Cross-Eyed: The Life of St. Paul. You can sign up on Immanuel’s website under the Events tab. We are also looking for donations of snacks. See the board in the Narthex and take a sticky note to donate.

ATTENTION LADIES OF ALL AGES . . . you are invited to a night of fun and games. Join us this Sunday, June 7, from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm at the parsonage for Bunco! If you’ve never played, don’t worry. The game is easy to learn and fun to play. Please bring a dessert or appetizer to share and be prepared to have a great time. If you have questions please talk to Celeste Nau, Jaimee Whitson or Lauren Braaten.

SUMMER CONFESSIONS STUDY . . . is underway. We will meet every Wednesday that Pastor is in town at 6:30 pm. We’ll be making our way through the Lutheran Confessions in the Book of Concord. Besides Sunday morning Bible Class, this is the perfect place to get any and all your questions about what Lutherans believe, teach, and confess. Join us.

BI-MONTHLY MISSION . . . is this week, June 7. All loose cash in the offering will go to Camp CILCA.
