NEXT WEEK’S READINGS . . . Isaiah 55:10–13; 2 Cor 11:19–12:9; Luke 8:4–15.

ABOUT THIS WEEK’S READINGS . . . The people of Israel contended with the Lord in the wilderness (Ex. 17:1–7). They were dissatisfied with His provision. In the same way, the first laborers in the vineyard complained against the landowner for the wage he provided them (Matt. 20:1–16). They charged him with being unfair, but in reality he was being generous. For the Lord does not wish to deal with us on the basis of what we deserve but on the basis of His abounding grace in Christ. The first—those who rely on their own merits—will be last. “For they were overthrown in the wilderness” (1 Cor. 10:5). But the last, those who rely on Christ, will be first. For Christ is the Rock (1 Cor. 9:24–10:5). He is the One who was struck and from whose side blood and water flowed that we may be cleansed of our sin.

THOUGHTS ABOUT STEWARDSHIP . . . 1 Corinthians 9:25 “Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable.” Self control is a fruit of the Spirit – for the desires of the flesh are at war with the desires of the Spirit. Having received the new life in Christ by his grace, he now calls us to follow him deliberately, with self-control, with intention.

THE ALTAR FLOWERS . . . were given by Greg & Donna Campbell to the glory of God on the occasion of Greg’s and Gunnar’s baptisms.

ATTENTION LADIES OF ALL AGES . . . you are invited to a night of fun and games. Join us tonight, February 1, 6:30–8:30 pm at the parsonage for Bunco! If you’ve never played, don’t worry. The game is easy to learn and fun to play. Please bring a dessert or appetizer to share and be prepared to have a great time. If you have questions please talk to Celeste Nau, Jaimee Whitson or Lauren Braaten.

HELP IMMANUEL’S YOUTH GO TO HIGHER THINGS . . . And it never tasted so good. Through Schwans-Cares.com, you can order from Schwan’s Home Delivery and help our Youth Group meet its fundraising goals. When you order by February 25, 2015, 20% of product and 40% of eGift Card sales will go back to our Youth Group. In addition, Schwan’s will contribute 5% of all orders to our organization for the rest of the year! Helping Immanuel’s Youth Group never tasted so good, indeed. See Immanuel’s website or the brochure on page 10 of this bulletin for more information on how to order.

THANK YOU . . . for the outpouring of support during our time of need as we mourn the death of our son, brother, and father, Steve Leonard. Your love and prayers encourage us to face the days ahead. Yours in Christ, Betty, Sam, Jack, & Marnie Leonard and Linda Brewer.

PRAYER CHAIN . . . The Prayer Chain needs to be updated. Pastor is looking for a volunteer to compile and publish a list of all the people who would like to serve on the prayer chain.

NEW MEMBERS CLASS . . . will begin Sunday, February 8, 4:00 pm–5:00 pm.

THE AUDIT COMMITTEE . . . is requesting the deposit ledgers and bank statements of all groups associated with Immanuel so that they may be audited as mandated by the church constitution. They may be set in the church office.

BI-MONTHLY MISSION . . . is today. All loose cash in the offering will go toward BETHs Place.
