THE ANNOUNCEMENTS

NEXT WEEK’S READINGS . . . Zechariah 9:9–12; Philippians 2:5–11; Matthew 21:1–9.

ABOUT THIS WEEK’S READINGS . . . In the temple Jesus said, “If anyone keeps my word, he will never see death” (John 8:51). For Jesus came to taste death for us—to drink the cup of suffering to the dregs in order that we might be released from its power. Clinging to His life-giving words, we are delivered from death’s sting and its eternal judgment. Christ is our High Priest, who entered the Most Holy Place and with His own blood obtained everlasting redemption for His people (Heb. 9:11–15). He is the One who was before Abraham was, and yet is his descendant. He is the promised Son who carries the wood up the mountain for the sacrifice, who is bound and laid upon the altar of the cross. He is the ram who is offered in our place, who is willingly caught in the thicket of our sin, and who wears the crown of thorns upon His head (Gen. 22:1–14). Though Jesus is dishonored by the sons of the devil, He is vindicated by the Father through the cross.

THOUGHTS ABOUT STEWARDSHIP . . . Genesis 22:2 He said, “Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.” It’s hard for us to even fathom a faith as strong as Abraham’s: he follows the Lord’s Word even when it seems impossibly hard. But he does so because he knows that the Lord only means to bless. What happened here to Abraham should be an encouragement for us: trust the Lord and keep His Word.

BI-MONTHLY MISSION . . . is Sunday, April 5, and will be going toward the Immanuel Funeral Fund. This fund is intended to supplement funeral dinner costs, such as the meat, that are over and above the food items graciously provided by our congregation. An envelope has been placed in your member mailbox for your convenience; additional envelopes can be found in the back of the church. Your generosity is truly appreciated.

EASTER LILY ORDER FORMS . . . Please return them to the office or Debra’s mail box by Sunday, April 10. Lilies are $13.00 each. The forms are on the back table in the Narthex.

EASTER BREAKFAST . . . The Board of Christian Education will be hosting the Easter Breakfast this year. Breakfast is served on Easter Morning from 7:00 am–8:30 am, between the Easter Sunrise Divine Service and the Easter Day Divine Service. Sign-up sheets for food are provided in the Narthex. For those who are at this time uncomfortable partaking of food prepared by others, the Board invites them to BYOB (bring your own breakfast) and enjoy the company of your brothers and sisters in Christ as much as you are able. This past year has been trying for everyone, in one way or another, and mingling with your church family, is good medicine for the body and soul. We hope to see you.

SAVE THE DATE . . . on this Friday, April 8, Dave Anderson and Roger Walck from Shepherd’s Canyon Retreat will be at Immanuel for an evening concert called “The Rescue Tour.” The concert begins at 7:00 pm. It will be preceded by a potluck. There is no fee, but a free offering will be taken to help those who attend Shepherd’s Canyon Retreat, which is a service committed to providing spiritual and emotional healing to clergy, other church workers, and their wives in the midst of burnout, depression, and compassion fatigue, offering hope and renewal through God’s Word. Dave and Roger’s music is a blend of gospel, hymns, and old-time Sunday school songs. The audience will be invited to sing along, but they only insist, that it’s the same song!

CONTRIBUTIONS & ATTENDANCE . . . Total YTD offerings $51,353.69, budgeted YTD offerings, $49,496.65. Average weekend attendance for February, 60.

IMMANUEL’S 125TH ANNIVERSARY COOKBOOK . . . The Board of Mission and Evangelism have prepared a cookbook for Immanuel’s 125th anniversary, which is next July. The cookbooks will be available in early December and cost $15.00. You may pr-order using the order form.
