THE ANNOUNCEMENTS

NEXT WEEK’S READINGS . . . Genesis 15:1–6; 1 John 4:16–21; Luke 16:19–31.

ABOUT THIS WEEK’S READINGS . . . When Isaiah beheld the glory of the Lord, he cried out “Woe is me!” For the sinner cannot stand in the presence of a holy God and live (Is. 6:1–7). But God the Father lifted up His Son Jesus for us on the cross, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. This eternal life of Christ is given us according to the Holy Spirit’s good pleasure in Baptism. “Unless one is born [again] of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God” (John 3:5). To sinners in fear of death, the messengers of God place on our lips the living body and blood of Christ and speak His words of absolution, “Your guilt is taken away, and your sin atoned for” (Is. 6:7). Having received forgiveness and life from the Father through the Son by the Holy Spirit, we join with the angels in praising the blessed Trinity, “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts!” (Is. 6:3). “For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be glory forever. Amen” (Rom. 11:33–36).

THOUGHTS ABOUT STEWARDSHIP . . . Isaiah 6:3 “And one called to another and said: ‘Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!’” Behold the threefold Name of God—here in Isaiah the angels cry Holy, Holy, Holy, which is nothing else than an indication of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This is the Name we are baptized into. We have been made a part of God’s family. And so we are now called to live lives that are in harmony with our new family: we are to be godly, to live in God’s image. As God is loving, and kind, and generous—so are we called to be.

ALTAR FLOWERS . . . are given by Kenny & Tammy Kresin to the glory of God on the occasion of their wedding anniversary.

PASTOR WILL BE AWAY . . . Thursday, May 28–Monday, June 1 to attend his twin nieces confirmation in Colorado. Rev. James Lee will be filling in for him on Saturday, May 30, and Sunday, May 31. If you have an emergency, you may contact Pastor Braaten on his mobile phone or call one of the Elders (Steve Hilgendorf, Ronald Legg, Bryce Reifsteck, Mark Whitson).

ATTENTION LADIES OF ALL AGES . . . you are invited to a night of fun and games. Join us next Sunday, June 7, from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm at the parsonage for Bunco! If you’ve never played, don’t worry. The game is easy to learn and fun to play. Please bring a dessert or appetizer to share and be prepared to have a great time. If you have questions please talk to Celeste Nau, Jaimee Whitson or Lauren Braaten.

SUMMER CONFESSIONS STUDY . . . will resume this Wednesday, June 3, 6:30 pm. We’ll be making our way through the Lutheran Confessions in the Book of Concord. Besides Sunday morning Bible Class, this is the perfect place to get any and all your questions about what Lutherans believe, teach, and confess. Join us.

CONGRATULATIONS TO GUNNAR CAMPBELL . . . on being the recipient of this year’s ILC College Scholarship. We will recognize him after Divine Service next week, June 7, and present him with the award.

THERE ARE STILL . . . many openings to put flowers on the altar. Check the flower chart on the bulletin board in the hallway outside the Sanctuary for openings and sign up. Flowers are $30.00 and can be special ordered if desired. Flowers can be taken home after the Sunday’s service. There are cups in the Sacristy under the sink to put the flowers in. Please do not take the inserts home.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL . . . will begin Sunday, June 14–Thursday, June 18, 6:00 pm–7:30 pm. This year’s theme is Cross-Eyed: The Life of St. Paul. You can sign up on Immanuel’s website under the Events tab. We are also looking for donations of snacks. See the board in the Narthex and take a sticky note to donate.

BI-MONTHLY MISSION . . . is next week, June 7. All loose cash in the offering will go to Camp CILCA.

HELP NEEDED . . . Due to the state budget crisis, BETHS Place is on the verge of closure. In our current situation, we will not be able to continue serving the women and children of domestic violence in Douglas County. We are asking for any monetary contributions to help us remain open and serving in our local communities. Thank you for your consideration and prayers.
