THE ANNOUNCEMENTS

NEXT WEEK’S READINGS . . . Ezekiel 36:22–28; 1 Peter 4:7–11; John 15:26–16:4.

ABOUT THIS WEEK’S READINGS . . . “Truly, truly, I say to you, whatever you ask of the Father in my name, he will give it to you” (John 16:23). To pray in Jesus’ name is to pray as one who has been baptized. For it is in the water that He put His name upon you, claiming you as His own, making you a son of God with access to the Father. By His incarnation and crucifixion, our Lord Jesus broke through the barrier of sin which separated us from God, opening a portal to the Father. To pray in Jesus’ name is to pray with faith in Him as the one Mediator between God and men, who gave Himself a ransom for all (1 Tim. 2:1–6). Like Moses in the wilderness, Jesus is our go-between and intercessor before the throne of heaven. He was lifted up for us on the cross that we might be saved and restored to fellowship with the Father (Num. 21:19). Looking into this perfect teaching of liberty (James 1:22–27) we pray with boldness and confidence as dear children of God.

THOUGHTS ABOUT STEWARDSHIP . . . James 1:22“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.” The Word of God is not merely to be heard, but to be received and believed. Our faith is implanted and strengthened by the Word of God. And as Luther said, “Oh, it is a living, busy, active, mighty thing, this faith. And so it is impossible for it not to do good works incessantly.” James reminds us of this—and encourages us to examine our lives and come to repentance where we can see that we are not living out our faith in sincerity.

JUNE BI-MONTHLY MISSION . . . is Sunday, June 5. June’s bi-monthly offering has been designated for Camp CILCA. Checks can be made out to Immanuel Lutheran Church. An envelope has been placed in your member mailbox for your convenience. Your generosity is truly appreciated.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS . . . Immanuel’s VBS will be June 6–10, 9:00 AM–11:30 AM. We will be looking for volunteers to help with snacks, crafts, and check-in and check-out.

THERE ARE STILL OPENINGS FOR FLOWERS . . . on the flower chart. Sign up individually or team up with someone. Flowers are $35.00 per weekend. Thank you!

THE ALTAR FLOWERS . . . are given by Steve, Ann, Jacob and Megan Hilgendorf to the glory of God on the occasion of the Baptism of Calvin Joel.

PASTOR IS AWAY . . . Sunday, May 22 (after Catechism Class) through Thursday, May 26 (will be returning in time for Ascension Day Divine Service). If you need emergency assistance, you may contact Pastor on his mobile phone, or contact one of the Elders.

SUNDAY SCHOOL OFFERINGS PROJECT . . . The students in Sunday School would like to provide flowers for the graves of Immanuel’s faithful departed on Memorial Day. The Sunday School will purchase the flowers and deliver the flowers to the graves on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend to those who are buried in Tuscola Cemetery. If you would like a flower for your loved one buried in another cemetery, the Sunday School will provide the flower for you to pick up at service that Sunday. To order flowers, please fill out the order form that is in the Narthex. Forms are due TODAY, Sunday, May 22.

SAVE THE DATE . . . Immanuel will be rejoicing in 125 years serving God by sharing His Word and remaining steadfast in His teachings. Please mark your calendars to join us in celebrating this anniversary on Sunday, July 17, 2022. The day begins at 9:00 am with a Divine Service with Holy Communion and Sem. Gunnar Campbell preaching. Refreshments will be served in the Fellowship Hall immediately following the service. The celebration continues in the afternoon with a Vespers service at 3:00 pm, which includes guest preacher, Rev. Douglas Meyer, who served Immanuel from 1985–1990. At 4:00 pm, Immanuel’s original bell from the old church will be dedicated, followed by an evening meal at 5:00 pm. Throughout the day, historical material and photographs depicting Immanuel’s journey will be on display in the halls and classrooms.
