CHURCH NEWS & ANNOUNCEMENTS

NEXT WEEK’S READINGS . . . Isaiah 55:1–9; Ephesians 5:15–21; Matthew 22:1–14.

ABOUT THIS WEEK’S READINGS . . . The Lord does not require us to ascend to Him; in mercy He descends to us (Gen 28:10–17). The ladder in Jacob’s dream was not for climbing; it was the means by which the Lord came to bless Jacob. This event finds its fulfillment in Christ who descended from His throne to save and bless us. By His incarnation He is the eternal bridge between heaven and earth. “The Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins” (Matt 9:1–8). The Lord was present in the flesh to absolve the paralytic. Jesus also healed and restored this man’s body. “For where there is forgiveness of sins, there is also life and salvation” (Small Catechism). The Lord still has power on earth to forgive sins. In holy absolution He raises up the new man (Eph 4:22–28) and bestows the healing medicine which will bring about our resurrection on the Last Day. Thus we say with Jacob, “This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven!” (Gen 28:17).

THOUGHTS ABOUT STEWARDSHIP . . . Ephesians 4:24 “Put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.” The battle between the old self in Adam and the new self in Christ is fought in the heart and mind of every Christian. Paul encourages us to put on the new man which is created in the image of God. Our sanctification, our growth in godliness, is a growth into God’s image. So we do this by keeping our eyes on Christ and imitating Him in everything: in love, in kindness, in self-giving generosity.

THE ALTAR FLOWERS . . . were given to the glory of God by The Arthur Family for blessings received.

ALTAR GUILD, COFFEE COMMITTEE, & FUNERAL CHAIR . . . For October, the Altar Guild is Celeste Nau and Willa Braaten. Coffee Committee is the Whitsons. October Funeral Chair is Krista Freebairn. For November, the Altar Guild is Sarah and Savana Andrésen. Coffee Committee is the Reifstecks. November Funeral Chair is OPEN.

That’s how a majority of people find churches to visit. Therefore, being visible on Google as one of the top results for searches is important to get found. One way to increase your visibility on Google is through their Rate & Review feature. Please consider rating and review Immanuel on Google by going to: https://g.page/r/CdbSahe0h2B0EAI/review

If you are willing to serve in either of these areas—or would like to learn more—please sign up in the narthex or contact the church office. Your service is a blessing to our congregation and to all who gather here in Christ’s name.

INSTALLATION OF PASTOR OLIVER Lamie . . . is scheduled for Sunday, November 15, 2:00 pm, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 390 County Rd 2400 E, Broadlands, Illinois.

Reformation Potluck — Sunday, October 25 . . . Join us on Sunday, October 25, at 5:30pm for an evening of food, fellowship, and celebration of the Reformation! Brats and hotdogs will be provided. Please bring a dish to share. Come enjoy good food and Christian fellowship as we give thanks for the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the blessings of the Reformation. Everyone is welcome!

Stand for Life — Saturday, October 17 . . . “Choose life, that you and your offspring may live” (Deuteronomy 30:19). We live in a world that too often treats human life as disposable. As Christians, we confess that every human life, from conception to natural death, is a precious gift from God, created and redeemed by Him. On Saturday, October 17, 11:00am–1:00pm, members of Forty Martyrs Catholic Church are hosting a peaceful gathering in Tuscola as part of the national 40 Days for Life campaign. This is a rare opportunity to stand alongside fellow Christians in our community, publicly bearing witness to the sanctity of human life and praying for an end to abortion. Members of Immanuel are encouraged to participate, whether for the entire gathering or just a portion of it. Participants will meet along the public sidewalk between Trust Bank and McDonald’s. Parking is available in the public lot behind Trust Bank. Signs will be provided. Come, pray, and bear witness to the God who gives life—even in a world that embraces death.
