Immanuel Lutheran Church Invites Community to Fourth Annual “Not Ashamed Conference”

TUSCOLA, Ill. — Immanuel Lutheran Church of Tuscola invites the community to attend its fourth annual Not Ashamed Conference on Saturday, August 29, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Tuscola Community Building, 122 W. North Central Avenue. Doors open at 8:30 a.m. This year’s conference promises to be a pivotal event for those eager to deepen their understanding of faith in a contemporary context, offering valuable insights and engaging discussions.

This year’s conference, “Not Ashamed of the Cross: Speaking the Truth Clearly in a Confused Age,” will feature nationally recognized speaker Rev. Bryan Wolfmueller, pastor, author, and host of several theological podcasts. Wolfmueller’s experience and unique perspective make him a compelling figure in contemporary Christianity, offering attendees a chance to engage with ideas that resonate deeply in today’s complex world.

In a culture marked by uncertainty and competing voices, many people wonder whether truth can still be known—or spoken with both conviction and compassion. This year’s conference explores why the Christian message has always challenged the world’s expectations and how believers can speak clearly, confidently, and graciously about their faith. Attendees will engage in discussions that not only tackle the challenges of modernity but also reflect on the timeless truths of Christianity that remain relevant today.

“The offense of Christianity is not that Christians are called to be harsh,” said Rev. Jason Braaten, pastor of Immanuel Lutheran Church and conference organizer. “The offense is the cross itself. At the same time, speaking the truth with clarity, humility, and love is one of the greatest ways we can serve our neighbors. Our hope is that attendees leave encouraged to live and confess their faith with both courage, clarity, and compassion. We believe in fostering a community where these values can thrive, empowering individuals to articulate their beliefs in a loving and impactful manner.

Throughout the morning, Wolfmueller will present three engaging sessions, each followed by opportunities for questions and discussion. The conference is designed for ordinary Christians seeking encouragement to navigate today’s cultural challenges while remaining grounded in the hope found in Jesus Christ. Participants will not only hear insightful teachings but also have the chance to share their own experiences and questions, making the event a vibrant exchange of ideas and support.

Although hosted by Immanuel Lutheran Church, the conference is intentionally open to everyone, regardless of church background or religious affiliation. Previous conferences have welcomed attendees from numerous denominations as well as individuals with no church connection. This inclusivity fosters a rich dialogue among diverse perspectives, enhancing the learning experience for all participants.

Admission is free, but advance registration is requested because seating is limited. Complimentary light breakfast refreshments, snacks, and a catered lunch will be provided at no cost to attendees. This thoughtful inclusion ensures that everyone can fully participate in the event without worrying about additional costs, making the conference accessible to all.

The Not Ashamed Conference is sponsored by Immanuel Lutheran Church and made possible through a grant from the Central Illinois District Church Extension Fund. This support underscores the importance of community engagement and the shared mission of spreading hope and truth in a world that often feels divided.
