CHURCH NEWS & ANNOUNCEMENTS
NEXT WEEK’S READINGS . . . Ezekiel 37:1–14; 1 John 5:4–10; John 20:19–31.
ABOUT THIS WEEK’S READINGS . . . “Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed” (1 Cor. 5:7). By the shed blood of Christ, the Lamb of God, eternal death has passed over us. Now we pass with Christ through death into life everlasting. For Christ the crucified One is risen! The stone has been rolled away from the tomb, revealing that the tomb could not hold Him (Mark 16:1–8). Now our Redeemer lives eternally to save us from sin and Satan and the grave, and we can live in the sure hope of our own bodily resurrection with Christ. “After my skin has been thus destroyed, yet in my flesh I shall see God” (Job 19:26). Feasting on the living Christ, who is our meat and drink indeed, we boldly say: “O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting? . . . But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Cor. 15:54–55, 57).
THOUGHTS ABOUT STEWARDSHIP . . . John 20:1 “Now on the first day of the week.” All is made new by the Resurrection of Jesus! Even the day of worship has transitioned from the Old Testament’s Saturday Sabbath to the Lord’s Day of the New Testament. For the Lord has made all things new: He has begun a new week for a new creation in rising from the dead as the New Adam. We are also made new in Him—a new heart, a new life, new desires, a new outlook toward God: all this comes from our Risen Lord’s grace.
ALTAR GUILD, COFFEE COMMITTEE, & FUNERAL CHAIR . . . For April, the Altar Guild is Carol & Cailin Munson. Coffee Committee is the Braatens. April Funeral Chair is Gretchen Krieger. For May, the Altar Guild is Sarah and Savana Andresen. Coffee Committee is the Freebairns. May Funeral Chair is Michelle Simpson.
EASTER BREAKFAST . . . The Board of Christian Education will be hosting the Easter Breakfast this year. Breakfast will be served on Easter Morning from 8:00 am –9:00 am, followed by the Easter Day Divine Service at 9:30 am. Sign-up sheets for food, drinks, and kitchen volunteers are provided in the Narthex. Immanuel’s Youth Group will be assisting in serving and clean-up. A donation box will be available with proceeds going to the Youth Group.
EASTER EGG HUNT . . . will be Easter Sunday, April 5, at 10:45 am. Thank you to the Board of Education for providing the goodies for Immanuel’s annual egg hunt!
Volunteers Needed for Altar Guild and Funeral Chair . . . We are looking for volunteers to serve in these important areas of congregational life.
- Altar Guild: Help care for the Lord’s body and blood, the altar linens and vessels, and ensure the altar is ready for next week’s worship.
- Funeral Chair: Assist in coordinating meals and hosting for funeral services, offering comfort and care to grieving families.
If you are willing to serve in either of these areas—or would like to learn more—please sign up in the narthex or contact the church office. Your service is a blessing to our congregation and to all who gather here in Christ’s name.
RATE & REVIEW IMMANUEL ON GOOGLE . . . Did you know that throughout the United States each month over 2 million people search on Google for “Churches Near Me.”? That’s how a majority of people find churches to visit. Therefore, being visible on Google as one of the top results for searches is important to get found. One way to increase your visibility on Google is through their Rate & Review feature. Please consider rating and review Immanuel on Google by going to: https://g.page/r/CdbSahe0h2B0EAI/review
REMINDER: VOTERS’ ASSEMBLY MEETING . . . is Sunday, April 19, at 10:30 am. Just a reminder that any voting member who is absent from the voters’ meetings for a full year without a valid excuse shall have his/her name removed from the roster of voting members. Those who are 65 and older can submit a written request to have their name placed on the senior voting member list and will be automatically excused. If any senior member is unsure whether or not there is a written request on file, please contact the office. If any member has been removed from the roster of voting members, he/she can be reinstated by a request to the elders and attendance at the voters’ meeting approving that request.
MEET THE ARTIST POTLUCK . . . Please plan to join us for a potluck at 5:30 pm on Saturday, April 18 to meet with Mr. Edward Riojas, the artist who painted our commissioned artwork of the twelve apostles. He will be delivering the finished paintings, and will discuss his artwork and the symbolism in the pieces, as well as answer any questions. He is coming with his wife and two interns, so please plan to attend and give them all a warm welcome. Fried chicken will be provided, so please come and bring a dish to share, and invite a friend. (Intern Ella Rivers attended Immanuel several years ago with her family who lived in Champaign at the time. She is excited to be coming back to visit!) If you have questions, please talk to Celeste Nau, Michelle Simpson, or Lauren Braaten.
