ABOUT THIS WEEK’S READINGS . . . When Isaiah beheld the glory of the Lord, he cried out “Woe is me!” For the sinner cannot stand in the presence of a holy God and live (Is. 6:1–7). But God the Father lifted up His Son Jesus for us on the cross, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. This eternal life of Christ is given us according to the Holy Spirit’s good pleasure in Baptism. “Unless one is born [again] of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God” (John 3:5). To sinners in fear of death, the messengers of God place on our lips the living body and blood of Christ and speak His words of absolution, “Your guilt is taken away, and your sin atoned for” (Is. 6:7). Having received forgiveness and life from the Father through the Son by the Holy Spirit, we join with the angels in praising the blessed Trinity, “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts!” (Is. 6:3). “For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be glory forever. Amen” (Rom. 11:33–36).

THOUGHTS ABOUT STEWARDSHIP . . . Isaiah 6:3 “And one called to another and said: ‘Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!’” Behold the threefold Name of God—here in Isaiah the angels cry Holy, Holy, Holy, which is nothing else than an indication of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This is the Name we are baptized into. We have been made a part of God’s family. And so we are now called to live lives that are in harmony with our new family: we are to be godly, to live in God’s image. As God is loving, and kind, and generous—so are we called to be.

CAMP CILCA’S ANNUAL HOG ROAST . . . is next Sunday, May 29. The menu includes pulled pork sandwiches, coleslaw, baked beans, and desserts. The day begins with worship at 10:30 am. A PICNIC-ON-THE-LAWN . . . is planned for next Sunday, May 29, 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Charleston, Illinois, as part of their 90^th anniversary celebration. BI-MONTHLY MISSION . . . is Sunday, June 5. All loose cash in the offering will go to Camp CILCA.

PEORIA BACH FESTIVAL . . . will be held June 5-12, 2016. This year’s festival will feature eight concerts and six other events including a free lunch lecture and an event for children. The first concert on Sunday, June 5, will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church (1420 Moss Ave., Peoria) with all other concerts and events held at Trinity Lutheran Church (135 NE Randolph Ave., Peoria). A PRAYER FOR THE SICK . . . O Father of mercies and God of all comfort, our only help in time of need, look with favor upon Your servant name. Assure him/her of Your mercy, deliver him/her from the temptations of the evil one, and give him/her patience and comfort in his/her illness. If it please you, restore him/her to health, or give him/her grace to accept this tribulation with courage and hope; through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

A PRAYER FOR THE YOUNG . . . Gracious Father, Your Son grew in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and all people. Bless, guide, and govern the children and young people of Your Church by Your Holy Spirit, that they, too, may grow in grace and in the knowledge of Your Word. Grant that they may serve You well and usefully, developing their talents not for their own sakes but to Your glory and for the welfare of their neighbor. Protect and defend them from all danger and harm, giving Your holy angels charge over them; through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

A PRAYER FOR RESPONSIBLE CITENZSHIP . . . Lord, keep this nation under Your care. Bless the leaders of our land that we may be a people at peace among ourselves and a blessing to other nations of the earth. Grant that we may choose trustworthy leaders, contribute to wise decisions for the general welfare, and serve You faithfully in our generation; through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
