THE ANNOUNCEMENTS

NEXT WEEK’S READINGS . . . Rev. 14:6–7; Romans 3:19–28; Matthew 11:12–19.

ABOUT THIS WEEK’S READINGS . . . “‘Let there be light,’ and there was light” (Gen. 1:1—2:3). The Father speaks, and it is so. His Word accomplishes what it says. He created all things out of nothing through His Son by the power of the Holy Spirit. The Father’s creative Word became flesh in Jesus Christ, that He might restore fallen creation and save fallen man. To the nobleman whose son was deathly ill, Jesus says, “Go; your son will live” (John 4:46–54). And in the very hour Jesus spoke, the nobleman’s son was made well. The Word of Christ still accomplishes what it says. In baptism, absolution, and the Lord’s Supper, He declares His life–giving forgiveness to you, and it is so. This saving Word of God is the sword of the Spirit by which you are able to fight off all the onslaughts of the devil (Eph. 6:10–17). “Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.”

THOUGHTS ABOUT STEWARDSHIP . . . Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” We are not our own—God has made us and we are His. He made everything so it is all His. And how kindly He has blessed us with the many gifts of His creation! Faithful stewardship starts right here . . . in the beginning.

ALTAR FLOWERS . . . are given by Mark & Leigh Ann Whitson to the glory of God on the occasion of their granddaughter Lauren’s birthday.

IMMANUEL’S JUNIOR CHOIR . . . will be singing next Sunday for Reformation during the Divine Service. Please have the kids here 10 minutes prior to the start of the service.

MEN OF ALL AGES—CAMP CILCA . . . is holding its first ever Men’s Target Shooting retreat on November 9-10. Registration is $65 and includes 3 meals on Saturday. Rev. Jonathan Fisk will be presenting in between target shooting, giving permission for men to be masculine. Bring your favorite firearm and ammunition. All ages are welcome, but children under 18 should be accompanied by an adult. Call 217-487-7497 or visit www.cilca.org.
