THE ANNOUNCEMENTS

NEXT WEEK’S READINGS . . . Isaiah 12:1–6; 1 Peter 5:6–11; Luke 15:1–10.

ABOUT THIS WEEK’S READINGS . . . The coming of the Messianic kingdom means the restoration of creation. The sign of this restoration is that “the mountains shall drip sweet wine” (Amos 9:11–15). When the elements of a fallen creation fail and run short at a wedding feast, our Lord Jesus steps in to restore creation and miraculously changes water into an abundance of the very best wine (John 2:1–11). With this sign, Christ manifests His glory. The “back” of God (Ex. 33:12–23) is revealed to those who believe. The hour will come when Jesus will again manifest His glory by taking creation’s curse into His own body to release us from its power. The Bridegroom will give His life for the Bride (Eph. 5:22–32), and from His side will flow water and blood, the holy sacraments by which she is cleansed and made one with Him. Through this sacrificial love of Christ we are enabled to “love one another with brotherly affection . . .” and to “outdo one another in showing honor” (Rom. 12:6–16).

THOUGHTS ABOUT STEWARDSHIP . . . Luke 14:19 “And another said, ‘I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to examine them. Please have me excused.’” The things of this world tempt us to cast aside the things of God. The things of this world demand our attention, time, finances, etc. But Jesus invites us to the feast – what could be more important than this gracious invitation? Today’s parables invites us to examine our own priorities and attempted excuses…and then to come home to the Lord who invites us in humble repentance.

ALTAR FLOWERS . . . are given by Kenny & Tammy Kresin to the glory of God on the occasion of their 28th wedding anniversary.

BI-MONTHLY MISSION . . . is today, Sunday, June 5. All loose cash in the offering will go to Camp CILCA. We thank Rev. Joshua Theilen, Director of Camp CILCA, for joining us today to preach and present in Bible Class about the exciting things happening.

PARENTS OF SUNDAY SCHOOL CHILDREN . . . On Sunday, June 12, the children are invited to visit SAM Food Pantry and donate items purchased with their weekly Sunday School offering. The tour of the pantry begins promptly at 10:45 am so we will leave the church parking lot at 10:35 am. If you plan on meeting us with your child at the Food Pantry, please let either Donna, Celeste, Jaimee, or Lauren know beforehand. Thank you for your cooperation and for allowing your children to see firsthand how their offering is helping people in the community.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL . . . is Sunday, June 12–Thursday, June 16, 6:00 pm–8:00 pm. This year’s theme is from the Book of Daniel: Life in Exile. You can sign up on Immanuel’s website under the Events tab. We are also looking for donations of snacks. See the board in the Narthex and take a sticky note to donate.

SUMMER CONFESSIONS STUDY . . . will begin on Wednesday, June 8. We will meet at 6:00 pm every Wednesday that Pastor is in town. We’ll be making our way through the Lutheran Confessions in the Book of Concord. Besides Sunday morning Bible Class, this is the perfect place to get any and all your questions answered about what Lutherans believe, teach, and confess. Join us!

2016 LCMS NATIONAL OFFERING . . . On June 12 LCMS congregations will be gathering their gifts for the National Offering. The insert in this week’s bulletin provides more information on the National Offering and includes an envelope that can be used to distinguish your gift from your weekly offering. Please make checks payable to Immanuel Lutheran Church. During the offering next week, you can simply drop the envelope into the collection plate. Pastor Braaten will then deliver our combined congregational gift to the National Offering at the LCMS convention in Milwaukee in July. Thank you!

PEORIA BACH FESTIVAL . . . will be held June 5-12, 2016. This year’s festival will feature eight concerts and six other events including a free lunch lecture and an event for children. The first concert on Sunday, June 5, will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church (1420 Moss Ave., Peoria) with all other concerts and events held at Trinity Lutheran Church (135 NE Randolph Ave., Peoria). More information can be found on Immanuel’s bulletin boards, as well as calling (309) 676-4609 or visiting www.peoriabachfestival.org.

A PRAYER FOR RIGHT RECEPTION OF THE LORD’S SUPPER . . . O Lord, our God, in Holy baptism You have called us to be Christians and granted us the remission of sins. Make us ready to receive the most holy body and blood of Christ for the forgiveness of all our sins, and grant us grateful hearts that we may give thanks to You, O Father, to Your Son, and to the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

A PRAYER FOR THANKSGIVING AFTER RECEIVING THE SACRAMENT . . . Blessed Savior, Jesus Christ, You have given Yourself to us in this holy Sacrament. Keep us in Your faith and favor that we may live in You even as You live in us. May Your body and blood preserve us in the true faith to life everlasting. Hear us for the sake of Your name.

A PRAYER FOR FAITH, HOPE, AND LOVE . . . Almighty God, grant us a steadfast faith in Jesus Christ, a cheerful hope in Your mercy, and a sincere love for You and one another; through Jesus Christ, our Lord.
