THE ANNOUNCEMENTS

NEXT WEEK’S READINGS . . . Numbers 21:4–9; James 1:22–27; John 16:23–30.

ABOUT THIS WEEK’S READINGS . . . Though Jesus has departed from us visibly to the right hand of the Father who sent Him, yet this is to our advantage. For Jesus—who is Lord over all creation, who intercedes for us before the Father, who is preparing a place for us in heaven—has sent the Helper, the Spirit of Truth (John 16:5–15). “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights” through Jesus Christ (James 1:17). The Holy Spirit helps us by taking what is Christ’s and declaring it to us. In the Word of truth, the Spirit works repentance and delivers to us the forgiveness of sins, the righteousness of Christ, and victory over the devil. For the ruler of this world is judged and defeated by the cross. Through the ministry of the Holy Spirit, we have been brought forth to new life in Him who is the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. Confident of our resurrection with Christ we confess, “Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid” (Is. 12:2).

THOUGHTS ABOUT STEWARDSHIP . . . James 1:17—“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.” How often this thought is repeated in the Scriptures! Everything good we have is from God. He loves to give. He loves to bless. He loves to show us generosity time and again – and He desires that we grow into His image, and reflect His love.

THE ALTAR FLOWERS . . . are given by Kenny and Tammy Kresin to the glory of God in memory of Walt and Marie Kresin.

THE PREMIER CONFERENCE FOR LUTHERAN LAITY (THAT’S YOU!) . . . is the 2016 Making the Case conference in Collinsville, Illinois, just outside St. Louis. Mark your calendars for Saturday, June 11, and plan to attend presentations that will make the case for Biblical womanhood, the Lutheran understanding of Law and Gospel, the means of grace, the end times, and more.  2017 is the 500th anniversary of the Reformation so it’s the perfect time to sign-up and learn more about our rich Biblical and Lutheran heritage. But wait, there’s more!! For all college-aged and high school students who wish to attend, the Board of Education has agreed to pay your registration fee (because we’re cool like that and we know you’ll learn a lot.) Check out the poster at the back of church and sign up today. Really. TODAY! Also, we will put together a carpool once we see how many sign up.

PRAYER CHAIN . . . Are you interested in joining the prayer chain? In addition to calling prayer chain volunteers with prayer requests, the same requests will be sent through email. If you are interested in participating, contact Leigh Ann Whitson at 217-253-4341 or Immanuel.tuscola@gmail.com.

APPLICATIONS FOR THE ILC COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP . . . sponsored by the Board of Mission and Evangelism are now being accepted. The deadline is May 1, 2016. Applications are available on the church Web site: immanueltuscola.org.

CAMP CILCA SCHOLARSHIP . . . The Board of Mission and Evangelism is offering a scholarship for anyone who wants to attend Camp CILCA. Camp CILCA Summer 2016 brochures can be found on the table across from member mailboxes. Please notify Pastor Braaten or Tammy Kresin of your interest.
