THE ANNOUNCEMENTS

NEXT WEEK’S READINGS . . . Isaiah 12:1–6; James 1:16–21; John 16:5–15.

ABOUT THIS WEEK’S READINGS . . . The people of God are pilgrims and sojourners in this world, looking ahead to a destination yet to come (1 Peter 2:11–20). Though we are now children of God, the fullness of what we shall be has not yet been revealed (1 John 3:1–3). We are those who wait on the Lord. “The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him” (Lam. 3:25). Jesus tells us that the wait is just a little while. “A little while, and you will see me no longer; and again a little while, and you will see me” (John 16:16). Though you must experience sorrow for a time, though you must live as strangers in a world that is at enmity with Christ, yet your sorrow will be turned to joy when He returns. “But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength” (Is. 40:31). The little while of weeping shall be replaced with an eternity of rejoicing in the presence of Christ the crucified and risen Savior. “And no one will take your joy from you” (John 16:22).

THOUGHTS ABOUT STEWARDSHIP . . . 1 Peter 2:11—“Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul.” Surely one of the “passions of the flesh” we all struggle with is greed: the desire to have more things to bring us comfort and peace of mind. But that shows us the real problem with greed: it wages war against our soul—it urges us to place our trust in the things of this world and not in God. But St. Peter reminds us that we are sojourners and exiles: we belong to the Kingdom of God. We have been purchased by the blood of Christ and belong to Him.

APPLICATIONS FOR THE ILC COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP . . . sponsored by the Board of Missions and Evangelism are now being accepted. The deadline is May 15, 2021. Applications are available on the church Web site: immanueltuscola.org.

YOUTH GROUP IS BACK ON . . . We are going bowling!  Meet at the church parking lot at 5:00 PM on Sunday, April 25, and we’ll carpool to Old Orchard Lanes in Savoy for pizza and bowling.

NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER . . . The Tuscola Area Ministerial Alliance (TAMA) is hosting the National Day of Prayer on Thursday, May 6, 2021, 12:05–12:35 pm, at Forty Martyr’s Hall, 109 E Van Allen Street, Tuscola. A free soup lunch will immediately follow the event

VICARAGE PLACEMENT . . . On Monday, April 26, 6:00 pm, candidates at Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, Indiana, will receive their vicarage assignments. Vicarage is a one-year internship at a congregation. Gunnar Campbell is a candidate for vicarage this year, and he will receive his assignment that night. You can watch where Gunnar is placed by live streaming the service through Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/ctsfw) and the seminary’s Daily Chapel page (https://www.ctsfw.edu/daily-chapel/).

THE ALTAR FLOWERS . . . are given by Josh and Jaimee Whitson to the glory of God on the occasion of Beau’s birthday.

LUTHERANS FOR LIFE CROSS DISPLAY . . . The Board of Mission and Evangelism is sponsoring a cross display to raise awareness of the pandemic of abortion in our country. The display consists of 3600 white crosses, which represent the number of babies who die every day in the United States from legalized abortion. The crosses will be on display the two weeks surrounding Mother’s Day. The Board is seeking volunteers to help set up the cross display on Saturday, May 1, 9:00 am.

COVID VACCINATIONS . . . Becky Anderson of the Douglas County Senior Resource Center/Family Services is making appointments for anyone over the age of 60 to get their COVID vaccinations and they will also provide transportation free of charge.  Call (217) 599-1324.

HOLY COMMUNION . . . The offer still stands, during the pandemic, that if you desire the Holy Communion, you can make an appointment with Pastor to receive the Lord’s Supper either at church or in your home until services resume.
