The Eve of the Nativity of Our Lord

O God, You make this most holy night to shine with the brightness of the true Light. Grant that as we have known the mysteries of that Light on earth we may also come to the fullness of His joys in heaven; through the same Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

The Feast of the Eve of the Nativity of Our Lord

God became man in the man Jesus Christ. And if we really fathomed what our Lord Christ has done by taking on human flesh, becoming our brother, living our life and dying our death, we would die of joy; our hearts would simply burst with joy. For the light of God’s love shines upon us in Jesus Christ, and yet the darkness of our hearts so often and so readily comprehends it not.

The Eve of the Nativity of Our Lord

“The birth of Jesus separates us from our fears.” “The birth of Jesus frees us from the [sinful] habits we are unable or unwilling to break ourselves.” “The birth of Jesus allows us simply to drop the false security we have been grasping so tightly, [so that we will trust and cling to Him instead],” letting go of the unreal for what is real.

The Eve of the Nativity of Our Lord

The eve of the Lord’s nativity, it is a night attack, a first-century Kristallnacht, but smaller. This invasion comes to seize that most pagan of strongholds. It comes to lighten the darkness of our hearts, which makes both God and idol. It comes with something more terrible than deception because it makes its enemy more vulnerable. It comes with light and with love.
