Harold I. Wattjes, 76, of Tuscola, IL, formerly of Nokomis, IL, passed away at 11:00 p.m. June 26, 2016 at Mattoon Rehab and Health Care Center, Mattoon, IL.
Funeral Services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, June 30, 2016 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, 600 East Northline Rd. Tuscola, IL. Visitation will be held Thursday, June 30, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the church.
An additional visitation will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 1, 2016 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, rural Nokomis, IL with graveside services to be held at 12:00 p.m., Friday at the church cemetery. Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, Tuscola, IL is entrusted by the family with the arrangements.
Mr. Wattjes was born in Pana, IL on April 7, 1940, the son of Richard H. and Helen Michelman Wattjes. He married Irene Schmedeke at Trinity Lutheran Church in Harvel, IL on November 1, 1959. She survives.
Other survivors include: 2 sons: Darrell (Michelle) Wattjes of Columbus, IN; Dennis (Paula) of Nokomis, IL; and a daughter: Rita Wattjes of Tuscola, IL; 5 grandchildren: Dawn, Michael, Heather, Alesia and Rebecca; 2 great-grandchildren: Destiny and Ethan Wattjes; a sister: Glenda Klim of New Milford, PA; niece: Gale (Rich) Hill and nephew: Mark Klim.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law: Ray Klim.
Harold was a farmer, hired hand and handyman. He worked with Habitat for Humanity, volunteering in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Tuscola, IL, a member of the Men’s Club and served as a church trustee for several years. His hobbies after retirement were doing jigsaw and number puzzles. Harold served his country as a member of the Illinois National Guard for 6 years.
