THE ANNOUNCEMENTS

NEXT WEEK’S READINGS . . . Exodus 17:1–7; 1 Cor 9:24–10:5; Matthew 20:1–16.

ABOUT THIS WEEK’S READINGS . . . The Lord appeared to Moses in the light of the burning bush (Ex. 3:1–14). Later Moses’ face would shine with the light of God’s glory when he came down from Mount Sinai (Ex. 34:29–35). At the Transfiguration, Moses and Elijah appeared with the One who is the Light of Light Himself (Matt. 17:1–9). Jesus’ glory as God shines with brilliant splendor in and through His human nature. By this epiphany, our Lord confirmed the prophetic word (2 Pet. 1:16–21), revealing that He is the fulfillment of the Law and the Prophets. He manifested His majesty as the eternal Son of the Father, and He wonderfully foreshowed our adoption as sons (Collect). We who have been baptized into Christ’s body are given a glimpse of the glory that we will share with Him in the resurrection on the Last Day.

THOUGHTS ABOUT STEWARDSHIP . . . Matthew 17:7 But Jesus came and touched them, saying, “Rise, and have no fear.” When Jesus is with us, there is no need to fear. He loves us and cares for us and will never abandon us. That assurance is the basis of all generosity—for only those who are set free from worry can learn the joy of giving.

THE ALTAR FLOWERS . . . were given by Laverl & Dolores Byers to the glory of God on the occasion of their wedding anniversary.

ATTENTION LADIES OF ALL AGES . . . you are invited to a night of fun and games. Join us Sunday, February 1,  6:30 – 8:30 pm, at the parsonage for Bunco! If you’ve never played, don’t worry. The game is easy to learn and fun to play. Please bring a dessert or appetizer to share and be prepared to have a great time. If you have questions please talk to Celeste Nau, Jaimee Whitson, or Lauren Braaten.

HELP IMMANUEL’S YOUTH GO TO HIGHER THINGS . . . And it never tasted so good. Through Schwans-Cares.com, you can order from Schwan’s Home Delivery and help our Youth Group meet its fundraising goals. When you order by February 25, 2015, 20% of product and 40% of eGift Card sales will go back to our Youth Group. In addition, Schwan’s will contribute 5% of all orders to our organization for the rest of the year! Helping Immanuel’s Youth Group never tasted so good, indeed. See Immanuel’s website for more information on how to order.

PROJECT CONNECT . . . is an arm of Lutheran Hour Ministries, which provides short booklets on topics ranging from Depression, Alzheimer’s, Guilt, Shame, Money and Time Management, and many more. Project Connect pamphlets are located outside pastor’s office on the free-standing rack.

SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHERS NEEDED . . . We are still in need of one teacher for the 4th–6th grade class. If this position is not filled those grades will not have Sunday School. Also beginning in January, we will need one teacher for the 1st–3rd grade class.

PRAYER CHAIN . . . The Prayer Chain needs to be updated. Pastor is looking for a volunteer to compile and publish a list of all the people who would like to serve on the prayer chain.

NEW MEMBERS CLASS . . . will begin Sunday, February 8, 4:00 pm–5:00 pm.

THE AUDIT COMMITTEE . . . is requesting the deposit ledgers and bank statements of all groups associated with Immanuel so that they may be audited as mandated by the church constitution. They may be set in the church office.
