THE ANNOUNCEMENTS

NEXT WEEK’S READINGS . . . Isaiah 65:17–25; 1 Thess 5:1–11; Matthew 25:1–13.

ABOUT THIS WEEK’S READINGS . . . Behold, with the clouds of heaven there came One like a Son of Man (Dan. 7:13). The Lord Jesus will return in glory on the Last Day with all His holy angels. Before Him will be gathered all the nations . . . And He will place the sheep on His right, but the goats on the left (Matt. 25:3–33). Those on His left will be cast into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For they rejected Christ by failing to receive and support His brethren, that is, the preachers of the Gospel. But those on His right will inherit the kingdom prepared for them from the foundation of the world. For they received and supported His brethren and believed what they preached. We believe in the promise of Christ’s coming, even it is delayed because of His longsuffering mercy. Conducting ourselves in godliness, knowing that this fallen creation will soon pass away, we look forward to new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells (2 Peter 3:13).

THOUGHTS ABOUT STEWARDSHIP . . . Philippians 1:3–5, “I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy, because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now.” God doesn’t need anything we have. Yet He invites us to give so that we can indeed become “partners in the Gospel.” This is a gift of His grace: inviting us to do significant work in the Kingdom of God through our tithes and offerings.

ALTAR FLOWERS . . . are given by Roger and Wanda Long to the glory of God on the occasion of the anniversary of their wedding.

PASTOR WILL BE AWAY . . . attending an LCEF meeting in Houston, Thursday, November 21–Sunday, November 24. In case of emergencies, you may call him on his mobile phone, or you may contact one of the Elders: Jack Appleby, Kenny Kresin, Josh Whitson, and Mark Whitson.

CAMP CILCA . . . is observing National Take a Hike Day today, November 17, with an hour-long hike at 3:30 pm around the 225 acres of God’s creation at the camp. Meet up at the Dining Hall with your hiking boots. The hike will end with a campfire and s’mores at 4:30 pm. See you there!

GUEST PRESENTER & POTLUCK . . . On Sunday, November 24, the Board of Christian Education is sponsoring a guest presenter with a potluck following the presentation. Rev. Dr. Ken Schurb will be preaching and giving a special presentation during the Bible Class hour on Justification and Eschatology. Eschatology is the study within the Bible on the last things. It covers topics like temporal death, the resurrection of the dead, the final judgment, the end of the world, eternal damnation and eternal salvation. He will be answering the question of how the doctrine of justification—the teaching that we are saved by grace through faith because of Christ—makes these last things a joyful and hopeful anticipation, not a fearful and hopeless reckoning. The Board of Christian Education is providing the meat, please bring a side dish to share.

BI-MONTHLY MISSION . . . is Sunday, December 1, and will be going toward the Angel Tree. An envelope designated for Angel Tree will be placed in your mailbox. You can place cash or check payable to Immanuel in this envelope and place it in the offering or return it to the church office on or before December 1. Thank you for your generosity in helping area children receive a few gifts under the Christmas Tree.

A CHRISTMAS CANTATA . . . by St. Paul Lutheran Church Women’s Choir, Come Let Us Adore.  Saturday, December 7, 7:00 pm in Sadorus (free will offering will benefit: Salt & Light Ministries, Urbana, IL).

CHRISTMAS SEASON CONCERT . . . at Grace Lutheran Church in Paris. Sunday, December 15, 3:00 pm. Music will include English themed selections along with seasonal hymn singing. Seating is limited, and the cost is $5.00 with all proceeds going to support the Grace Lutheran Child Development Center. A reception will follow with seasonal treats to enjoy. Please call the church office for tickets. (217) 466-1215.

PICTURE DAY . . . It’s time to get your smile on! We will be updating our church directory in 2020. This will take place the week of January 20, 2020. If you have any pictures of our church family and fun times here at Immanuel over the past five years, we would love to have them to add to the directory (e.g., youth group, pot lucks, Easter egg hunt, VBS, confirmation, etc.). Any questions can be directed to Jaimee Whitson (217) 714-8136 or the Board of Mission and Evangelism. We hope to see you and your smiles there! Coming soon: A sign-up sheet posted next to the flower sign up for you to pick a convenient time to be photographed.

CONTRIBUTION ENVELOPES . . . have been placed in your boxes.  If you did not receive one and should have, please contact the office.

2020 SCHEDULES . . . have been sent out via email and some have been placed in your boxes. Please let me know if the schedule works for you or needs to be adjusted. You can email, call the church, or leave a message in my box. I will place a copy of the schedules in your boxes when they have all been approved. Don’t forget to sign up for flowers on the newly posted chart.  Thank you for your support and service.
