THE ANNOUNCEMENTS

NEXT WEEK’S READINGS . . . Isaiah 12:1–6; 1 Peter 5:6–11; Luke 15:1–10.

ABOUT THIS WEEK’S READINGS . . . The coming of the Messianic kingdom means the restoration of creation. The sign of this restoration is that “the mountains shall drip sweet wine” (Amos 9:11–15). When the elements of a fallen creation fail and run short at a wedding feast, our Lord Jesus steps in to restore creation and miraculously changes water into an abundance of the very best wine (John 2:1–11). With this sign, Christ manifests His glory. The “back” of God (Ex. 33:12–23) is revealed to those who believe. The hour will come when Jesus will again manifest His glory by taking creation’s curse into His own body to release us from its power. The Bridegroom will give His life for the Bride (Eph. 5:22–32), and from His side will flow water and blood, the holy sacraments by which she is cleansed and made one with Him. Through this sacrificial love of Christ we are enabled to “love one another with brotherly affection . . .” and to “outdo one another in showing honor” (Rom. 12:6–16).

THOUGHTS ABOUT STEWARDSHIP . . . Luke 14:19 “And another said, ‘I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to examine them. Please have me excused.’” The things of this world tempt us to cast aside the things of God. The things of this world demand our attention, time, finances, etc. But Jesus invites us to the feast – what could be more important than this gracious invitation? Today’s parables invites us to examine our own priorities and attempted excuses…and then to come home to the Lord who invites us in humble repentance.

ALTAR FLOWERS . . . are given by Alberta Dallas to the glory of God in thanksgiving for the healing of her ankle and continued recovery at home.

THERE ARE STILL . . . many openings to put flowers on the altar. Check the flower chart on the bulletin board in the hallway outside the Sanctuary for openings and sign up. Flowers are $30.00 and can be special ordered if desired. Flowers can be taken home after the Sunday’s service. There are cups in the Sacristy under the sink to put the flowers in. Please do not take the inserts home.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL . . . begins today, running Sunday, June 14–Thursday, June 18, 6:00 pm–7:30 pm. This year’s theme is Cross-Eyed: The Life of St. Paul. You can sign up on Immanuel’s website under the Events tab. We are also looking for donations of snacks. See the board in the Narthex and take a sticky note to donate.

SUMMER CONFESSIONS STUDY . . . is underway. We will meet every Wednesday that Pastor is in town at 6:30 pm. We’ll be making our way through the Lutheran Confessions in the Book of Concord. Besides Sunday morning Bible Class, this is the perfect place to get any and all your questions about what Lutherans believe, teach, and confess. Join us.

BINGO . . . at the Tuscola Senior Center Building, Wednesday, June 17, after a meal menu of meat loaf, au gratin potatoes, spinach salad, whole-grain wheat bread, and warm fruit cobbler at 11:30 am. The meal is for people over 60 for a donation of $3.50. Reservations must be made by noon on Tuesday, June 16 at (217) 2532278.

FREE DIABETIC RETINOPATHY SCREENING . . . hosted by the Tuscola Lions Club on June 20 at Festival Corner at Main and Sale Streets.
