THE ANNOUNCEMENTS

NEXT WEEK’S READINGS . . . Exodus 16:2–21; Galatians 4:21–31; John 6:1–15.

ABOUT THIS WEEK’S READINGS . . . Jeremiah was charged with speaking evil when he spoke the Word of the Lord (Jer. 26:1–15). So also, Jesus is accused of doing evil when in fact He is doing good. He casts out a demon from a mute man so that he is able to speak (Luke 11:14–28). But some said Jesus did this by the power of Beelzebul, Satan. Like Pharaoh of old, their hearts were hard (Ex. 8:16–24). They did not recognize the finger of God, the power of the Holy Spirit at work in and through Jesus. Jesus is the Stronger Man who overcomes the strong man. He takes the devil’s armor of sin and death and destroys it from the inside out by the holy cross. He exorcizes and frees us by water and the Word. We were once darkness, but now we are light in Christ the Lord (Eph. 5:1–9). As children of light, our tongues are loosed to give thanks to Him who saved us.

THOUGHTS ABOUT STEWARDSHIP . . . Ephesians 5:1–2 “Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us.” Our sanctification flows from the justification which we have received in Christ. His love for us transforms us into His image. This why the Bible talks so much about giving—because we are to imitate God in His generosity.

TODAY IN BIBLE CLASS: BETA SIGMA PSI . . . is a national Lutheran fraternity whose mission is to provide the ideal environment for the Lutheran college man to grow spiritually, scholastically, and socially. Representatives from the University of Illinois chapter will attend our Bible Class today (February 28) to briefly explain who they are and what they do. Plan to attend and learn more about Beta Sigma Psi.

VETERANS . . . We are updating information in the church membership software.  If you are a Veteran, please let Leigh Ann Whitson know.  Feel free to contact her in person, by phone (217-253-4341), or by email (Immanuel.tuscola@gmail.com).

EDUCATION & EDIFICATION . . . Issues, Etc. is a radio talk show hosted by LCMS Pastor Todd Wilken and produced by Lutheran Public Radio in Collinsville, IL.  This week’s topics include: The Movie “Risen,” The Sermon on the Mount, Martin Luther’s “Invocavit” Sermons, The Bread of Life and more.  You can listen at your convenience at www.issuesetc.org and on the Lutheran Public Radio mobile app.
