THE ANNOUNCEMENTS

NEXT WEEK’S READINGS . . . Genesis 11:1–9; Acts 2:1–21, 36–41; John 14:23–31.

ABOUT THIS WEEK’S READINGS . . . The Spirit of Truth bears witness to Jesus, who is the truth. But the world does not receive the truth. It loves its own and hates those who are of the truth. Just as Jesus was scorned, so is His Church. “The hour is coming when whoever kills you will think he is offering service to God” (John 16:2). Yet it is by Jesus’ suffering and death that we are saved. Therefore we rejoice to share in His sufferings, that we may also share in His resurrection glory (1 Pet. 4:7–14). Through the ministry of the Spirit of Truth, we are cleansed from the deceit of our idols and given a new heart and a new spirit, the heart and Spirit of Christ (Ezek. 36:22–28). He now works in us fervent, self-giving love for one another, love which covers a multitude of sins, “that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen” (1 Pet. 4:11).

THOUGHTS ABOUT STEWARDSHIP . . . 1 Peter 4:10—“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace.” God’s grace is His undeserved mercy toward us. And what do we have that is not a gift flowing from God’s grace? He means for us to use all these gifts in service toward one another. And chief among the ways we serve one another is to support the Church’s work of bringing more of God’s grace to more of God’s people. And that’s what it means to be a steward!

JUNE BI-MONTHLY MISSION . . . is June 6. June’s bi-monthly offering has been designated for Camp CILCA. Checks can be made out to Immanuel Lutheran Church. An envelope has been placed in your member mailbox for your convenience. Your generosity is truly appreciated.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL . . . is set for Monday, June 7–Friday, June 11, 9:00 am–11:00 am. Go to https://immanueltuscola.org/ to sign your child(ren) up. The Board of Education is seeking donations of snacks, juice, and volunteers. You may sign up by taking a post-it note from VBS board in the Narthex. Please bring your items to the church kitchen by Monday, June 7, at 8:45 am. Thank you!

THERE ARE STILL OPENINGS FOR FLOWERS . . . on the flower chart. Sign up individually or team up with someone. Flowers are $35.00 per weekend. Thank you!

“THE TESTIMONY OF GOD IS GREATER” (1 JOHN 5:9A) . . . like a mother’s reassurances counteracting the bully’s ridicule. “His Word is truth” (John 17:17), like a mother’s comforting correcting emotional assumptions. The world’s abortive ways say, “You can’t endure.” The Son of God says, “I will undertake for you.” The devil’s suicidal deceptions say, “Take control.” The Son of God says, “Trust me.” The sinful flesh says, “No, the burden’s too heavy.” The Son of God says, “Yes, the blessing is abundant!” Holy Father, sanctify our lives and our neighbors in the testimony of Your truth. Amen.

A PRAYER FOR PURITY. . . Almighty God, unto whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hidden, cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of Your Holy Spirit that we may perfectly love You and worthily magnify Your holy name; through Jesus Christ, our Lord.

YOUTH GROUP EVENT . . . Attention members of Youth Group!! Dig out your sleeping bags and mark your calendars for Friday, May 28, 2021 at Walnut Point State Park. We’ve reserved the Group Camp location so any parents of Youth Group member who would like to come join us may bring their tents as well. There’s a sign-up sheet in the narthex. More details to follow so watch the bulletin.

THE ALTAR FLOWERS . . . are given by Jason and Lauren Braaten to the glory of God on the occasion of their anniversary..
